Do you know that parental rights for workers in England are the same-sex relationships as well as in opposite-sex relationships? Are you aware of how those rights work?

You and your partner could be eligible for:

  1. maternity rights

  2. paternity leave and pay

  3. shared parental leave

  4. adoption leave and pay

  5. unpaid time off to look after your child

  6. come to antenatal appointments with your partner

You can also share parental leave and pay with your partner. Check out what an article on Citizen Advice website says about it:

If you or your partner are expecting a baby (or having a child placed with you for adoption), you might be able to turn the maternity (or adoption) leave and pay into shared parental leave and pay.
You can share up to 50 weeks' leave and up to 37 weeks' pay. You have a choice of either:
sharing your leave and pay between you
one of you taking all the shared parental leave and pay
Check if you can get shared parental leave and pay using the calculator on GOV.UK.
