This paper describes about the women working in government organizations and how they balance their work-life. Though women in Government have good salary and secured employment, their innate role in the family remains unchanged. This study choosing a convenience sample of 70 women employed in various government organisations in Vellore assessed the balance maintained by them on their work-life. The result exposed that extended work hours impacted family’s quality time with spouses spread apart and children left to secondary caretakers. It also confirmed negative correlation for support received from paid and unpaid help at home.

The spillover of the family-on-work was thus concluded by the high Likert scores. Friedman test revealed that respondents were affected by headache/migraine, sleep disorders while suffering overtiredness and psychological anxiety. In conclusion it is suggested that the government plays an exemplary role by initiating the “utopian” work life balance policy and practice to promote achievement at work and enjoyment in family and safeguard the primary institution as guardian of the society at large. Key words: work-life balance, work-on-life spillover, life-on-work spillover, utopian policy option.
