A scholarship designed to promote diversity in the tech sector in Oxfordshire is launching to help cover college tuition fees. Activate Learning and South Central Institute of Technology in partnership with software company Webexpenses are launching the scholarship. It is open to prospective students including BAME, disabled, female and those living in low participation postcode areas (POLAR). 

It will cover 100 per cent of the total cost of the tuition fees (£6,165) for Level 4 HNC Digital Technologies programmes at City of Oxford College - Technology Campus in Blackbird Leys. 

Speaking about the launch of the new scholarship, Adam Reynolds, CEO of Wepexpenses, said: “As an Oxfordshire based employer in the tech sector, Webexpenses has partnered with Activate Learning for a number of years offering good quality work experience and internships.  “We are proud to announce that this year we are also launching the ELMO Webexpenses Scholarship. 

“The scholarship is open to students in underrepresented groups. With young people aged over 19 more likely than other age groups to feel that either they do not have the skills to work in technology or that there are not many tech jobs around, we're hopeful that through this scholarship we will attract more students from underrepresented groups onto the course and ultimately into a career in software development.” 

Applications for the new scholarship are live until Friday July 8 and open to those who meet the necessary criteria for September 2022 entry.
